Dear Hon. Ban Ki-Moon, Hon. Vijay Nambiar,
Sri Lankan conflict is both an urgent political and a humanitarian problem to solve.
Please send International Monitors, International Media, Aid Agencies and NGOS to Northern Sri Lanka immediately to protect the rights of the thousands of innocent Tamil civilians taken by the Sri Lankan Army and to monitor the Army's "screening process". Even ICRC has been denied access to the "screening centres".
In 15 hours, 1500 Tamils have been killed inside the "safe zone"; ALL of the fleeing civilians, including children and babies, are sent to crowded military operated concentration camps which are "out of bounds" to media and aid agencies, after a military "screening". Hundreds of Tamil youth are unaccounted for after the screening; RAPES, TORTURE, DISAPPERANCES, KILLINGS are carried out with IMPUNITY by the Sri Lanka forces in the camps. The numbers of disappearances are expected to increase rapidly over the coming weeks.
Sri Lanka has carried out atrocities against the Tamils since the Independence of Ceylon from Britain in 1949. Prior to British rule, the Portuguese colonial rulers and Dutch colonial rulers ruled the Tamil territories and Sinhalese territories separately. The British joined the two nations in 1833 citing "administrative convenience". Sri Lanka's independence proved to be a death call for the Tamils. There were state sponsored pogroms and the "Sinhala only" act was introduced in 1956. "Ceylon" was illegally changed to "Sri Lanka" in 1972.
The LTTE as an armed group and a liberation movement came to existence in 1970s after 30 YEARS OF NON-VIOLENT STRUGGLE by the Tamils. Sri Lanka slaughtering Tamils and UN sitting silent would further infuriate Tamils around the world. Presently, 80 million Tamils across the world are agitating.
We recognise that there are two nations in present day Sri Lanka - A Sinhalese nation and a Tamil Nation.
We believe that separation is the only solution so that these two nations can exist peacefully.
We request the international community to recognise Tamils right for self determination in their traditional homeland.
Yours Truly,
