The Hon Kevin Rudd MP
Prime Minister of Australia
Parliament House
Canberra, ACT 2600
Dear Prime Minister,

Tamils Feel Let Down by the Australian Labor Government.

Where were you when Tamil Australians repeatedly pleaded with you to take concrete actions to save thousands of innocent civilians caught in the conflict in the island of Sri Lanka?

Where were you when the Sri Lankan government slaughtered more than 20,000 innocent civilians in cold blood and injured more than 45,000 civilians of whom at least 30,000 have lost a limb?

Where were you when the Sri Lankan government forced all aid agencies, the United Nations and the media to leave conflict areas in order to commit crimes without witnesses and with impunity?

Where were you when international aid agencies, NGOs, Human Rights activists called for immediate action to save the lives of several thousands of civilians?

Where were you when Sri Lankan government used food and medicines as weapons of war against innocent Tamil civilians?

Where were you when the grief stricken members of the Tamil Australian community pleaded for a meeting with the Foreign Minister or any senior government ministers to express their grief?

Where were you when the Sri Lankan government used banned chemical weapons and indiscriminately fired artillery shells and even bombed hospitals, schools and places of worship?

Where were you when Sri Lankan government used political manoeuvring to avoid war crime investigations by the UN Human Rights council?

Where were you when the UN made a mockery of human rights by congratulating a regime which was directly responsible for the slaughter of more than 20,000 innocent civilian lives in agreed no-fire safe zone?

And finally at least now please respond to the community's plea.

* Please take actions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all those civilians in camps.
* Please prevail on ICRC to have a record of all those in camps and allow families and friends to find out the whereabouts of their loved ones
* Please prevail on the UN to push for an independent investigation into war crimes
* Please take adequate steps to see that all international norms are followed in the treatment of former combatants in custody.

Yours truly,
